*TOPIC: LOSING DIVINE BACKING (2)*

*TEXT: JOSHUA 7*

*KEY VERSE: (Joshua 7:12)* _Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they were accursed: neither will I be with you any more, except ye destroy the accursed from among you._

Today, we shall continue with our discussion on the importance of God’s presence in one’s life. We shall wrap up the discussion on factors that can make God depart from a person’s life and also proceed to discuss some other headings.

– *FACTORS THAT CAN MAKE GOD WITHDRAW HIS PRESENCE IN A PERSON’S LIFE*

1. *_Secret sins:_* Nothing is more dangerous and inimical to a believer’s spiritual health than committing secret sins. Some believers behave very piously in the congregation of the brethren such that they are often entrusted with key responsibilities in the fold. Of course, they do these tasks quite well, but unfortunately, their walk with God is not quite balanced as they still struggle with secret sins like pornography, secret drinking, etc. This can hinder the presence of God in a man’s life *_(Isaiah 59:2)_*

2. *_Bringing the spirit of God to Grief:_* All sins are forgivable, but to forgive any sin against the Holy Spirit is quite herculean *_(Ephesians 4:30)_* When the Spirit of God is grieved, the next thing is for God to exit such person’s life.

*EFFECTS OF LOSING DIVINE BACKING*

1. When God does not release backing from above, one’s life becomes quite miserable. It may become so bad that it often seems as though all the forces and elements of nature have connived to frustrate such individual.

2. One begins to experience defeats, disappointment, and uncertainty in areas/circumstances/places where victory used to be guaranteed in times past. *_(Joshua 7:5)_*

3. One begins to experience shame and reproach. As a believer, it can even make unbelievers blaspheme or despise the very name by which you were called or which you were prominently associated with in the past.

4. It can lead to one seeking help from the wrong source. When God departs from a person’s life, he becomes so frustrated that he listens to odd advice that will lead him to seek help from demonic sources instead of striving to regain the lost heavenly connection, thereby further plunging into a more serious jeopardy.

*SEARCHLIGHT*:
God’s presence in our affairs is like a lamp. Without it, we will be in utter darkness, regardless of the nature of physical illumination that surrounds us.

*PRAYER*:
My Father, You are my only Shield, do not abandon me, in the Mighty name of Jesus.

*BIBLE READING*:
Jeremiah 10-12, Mark 1
