TOPIC: TARRY IN JERUSALEM

TEXT: And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. (Acts 1:4)

There is no assignment in the kingdom that does not involve preliminary training and waiting, no matter how small it may be. Any kingdom assignment which a person embarks on without proper planning and preparation may not yield any positive fruits. Before Jesus left the earth, He urged them not to depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the Spirit of God to descend upon them. Waiting in Jerusalem entailed preparation and training for them. The assignment ahead of them was heavenly and mighty and needed them to be empowered and well-equipped for the task.

MEANING OF “JERUSALEM” TO A BELIEVER

  1. A place of constant prayers for the will of God to manifest promptly (Acts 1:14)
  2. It is a place where one may be tested by various unpleasant circumstances. These circumstances are not to mar us, but to test our resolve and endurance.
  3. It is a place where believers must be careful enough to obey all instructions that originate from God at this point. Obedience is very key to receiving God’s blessings. When a believer is not well equipped, he/she may just possess zeal without any atom of power. Apart from that, God has times and periods for everything and one can’t jump protocol. If God says it’s not yet time, then it isn’t! Waiting helps us to be broken down and malleable. Our selfish wills are killed and replaced with the will of God.

KEY LESSONS

  1. God does not necessarily deal with emotions but with order and reality. Don’t start a project out of self-motivation or emotions without getting the go-ahead from God.
  2. Knowledge alone is not enough. Wait for power. Knowledge without power is in vain.
  3. Waiting may not be comfortable but is necessary. There may be pains, ridicule and hardship but God is working on you in the midst of it all.

SEARCHLIGHT: Seek power! Power is a driving force for manifestation. Wait and pay all your dues spiritually before seeking manifestation.

PRAYER: O LORD, equip me with fire from above and guide me through my waiting period, in Jesus’ mighty name.
