THE WAYS OF GOD V THE WAYS OF MAN: TRUSTING IN GOD’S SOVEREIGNTY AND WISDOM
MARCH 16, 2025
TEXT: And when the LORD saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb: but Rachel was barren. (Genesis 29:31)
Today, we shall be discussing the nature of God’s ways and how they are not the ways of man. (Isaiah 55: 8-9). God , in His sovereignty, usually has plans that are bigger and deeper than what we can imagine. However, it is noteworthy that God may not attend to our needs exactly the way we want Him to. He has His appointed time and He will surely bring to fulfilment all He has promised to do.
In our given text,we see the cases of two women married to Jacob, namely: Leah and Rachael. Rachael was the originally loved wife, but because of the hatred which Jacob had for Leah,God deliberately permitted her to bear children, while Rachael’s womb was momentarily shut by God. It was until Leah gave birth to all her children that God finally opened Rachael’s womb and she bore Joseph and Benjamin.
It is a well known saying that Man proposes, but God disposes. Naturally, one would have expected Rachael to give birth to children even earlier than Leah did, especially considering that Jacob loved Rachael more and probably even spent more time with her than he did with Rachael.
However, God decided to show His supremacy and sovereignty over the affairs of man.
God has a plan for each of us and each plan has a stipulated manifestation date. We must keep trusting in God’s sovereign power to guide us in keying into God’s plans for us.
