TRUSTING IN GOD’S SOVEREIGNTY AND WISDOM
March 17, 2025
TEXT: And when the LORD saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb: but Rachel was barren. (Genesis 29:31)
Today, we shall be discussing the nature of God’s ways and how they differ from the ways of man. (Isaiah 55:8-9). God, in His sovereignty, usually has plans that are bigger and deeper than what we can imagine. However, it is noteworthy that God may not attend to our needs exactly the way we want Him to. He has His appointed time, and He will surely bring to fulfillment all He has promised to do.
In our given text, we see the cases of two women married to Jacob, namely: Leah and Rachel. Rachel was the originally loved wife, but because of the hatred Jacob had for Leah, God deliberately permitted Leah to bear children, while Rachel’s womb was momentarily shut by God. It was not until Leah gave birth to all her children that God finally opened Rachel’s womb, and she bore Joseph and Benjamin.
It is a well-known saying that “Man proposes, but God disposes.” Naturally, one would have expected Rachel to give birth to children even earlier than Leah did, especially considering that Jacob loved Rachel more and probably even spent more time with her than he did with Leah. However, God decided to show His supremacy and sovereignty over the affairs of man. God has a plan for each of us, and each plan has a stipulated manifestation date. We must keep trusting in God’s sovereign power to guide us in keying into God’s plans for us.
