TEXT: 1 Samuel 16: 1-13 KEY VERSE: And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all thy children? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep. 1 Samuel 16:11

We often hear stories of great people who overcame obstacles to achieve greatness. Albert Einstein, the renowned physicist, faced significant setbacks early in life but continued to pursue his passion for physics and eventually rose to greatness. The story of Einstein serves as an example of how God can use seemingly ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things.

At the time of Samuel’s visit to Jesse’s house, Israel needed a new king. Samuel, guided by God, came to choose a new king from among Jesse’s sons. However, none of Jesse’s older sons were chosen. Instead, God led Samuel to David, the youngest and seemingly least likely candidate. When Samuel asked Jesse to present his sons, Jesse didn’t think to bring David from the fields where he was tending the sheep.

When David was brought before Samuel, God told Samuel, “Arise, anoint him; for this is the one!” (1 Samuel 16:12). Samuel anointed David as the future king of Israel. David faced challenges, including a battle with Goliath, but remained faithful to God and eventually rose to greatness.

From an ordinary shepherd to a mighty king, David rose from humble beginnings to fulfill God’s plan for him. Like Einstein, David faced adversity but remained steadfast in his faith and purpose. Their examples remind us that God can use any of us for extraordinary purposes if we trust in Him and follow His guidance.

SEARCH LIGHT: God often calls the unlikely to do extraordinary things. Do not underestimate the power of your own actions or your potential to make a difference.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, grant me the courage, resilience, and determination required to rise above the ordinary and achieve extraordinary things.

BIBLE READING: 2 Kings 9-11, 1 Corinthians 13.
