PURGING FOR THE MASTER’S USE

PURGING FOR THE MASTER’S USE

AUGUST 28, 2025

TEXT: ‭2 Timothy 2:20-21

KEY VERSE: (V. 21) If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.

God has different requirements that He wants those who are desirous of doing His work to possess or manifest. In the given text, we realise that Paul, in his epistle to Timothy, made reference to the various available vessels in a house. Some are meant for honourable and dignifying purposes such as being used to serve executives, the wealthy and the special guests of honour, or to please yourself during important feasts or festivals. On the other hand, we have vessels that are used for less-dignifying or disgraceful tasks/assignments. It is the desire of God that we present ourselves as honourable vessels, wholly and acceptable for the master’s use and utilisation. If we, by chance, have anything in our lives that can make it difficult for the master to use us, it is expected that we go ahead to purge and cleanse ourselves of any such inadequacy. We need to discipline and build up ourselves to be able to meet up with the demands of the kingdom.

MEANING OF PURGING
Purging is the act of cleansing or removing something from a surface. It means to render clean or pure.

KEY FACTS ABOUT PURGING FOR KINGDOM SUITABILITY

  1. Purging involves total abstinence from sinful lifestyles. God hates sin with perfect hatred and it is one of the things that can hinder a person from being used by God. (Romans 6:23, John 15:3)
  2. Purging may often come with tribulations just for God to effectively train us for His use. Good things often require tough processes before actually becoming good. Gold, for instance, must pass through fire for refining before it becomes the valuable substance that we all cherish. Trials are sometimes meant to train, equip and reform us rather than mar or jeopardise things for us. (Malachi 3:3)
  3. Purging is a double-faced task. We facilitate the process of purging, but our God facilitates the actual act of purging by His blood and spirit. (1 John 1:7)
