PEACE IN THE STORMY SEA (2)
SEPTEMBER 8, 2025
TEXT: MATTHEW 8:23-27
KEY VERSE: And He saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.
In continuation of yesterday’s discussion, we shall delve into the Bible to examine some biblical characters who faced various storms in their lives, but ultimately prevailed.
BIBLICAL CHARACTERS WHO PREVAILED OVER STORMS
- Joseph: This man started by facing betrayals from his own brothers who were envious of his glorious destiny. They proceeded to sell him to the Midianites who also sold him to Potiphar, where he served as a domestic servant. He moved from these storms to a more terrible storm when he was wrongfully accused by his master’s wife of attempted rape. However, he received God’s visitation while he was in prison, and his story changed for life. (Genesis 39, 40, and 41)
- Job: Job watched his previously prosperous life suddenly beginning to crash and crumble, unable to do anything. A man who was described as one of the richest men in the east back then suddenly went on a downward spiral. He became so poor that even his own wife questioned his faith and told him to curse God and die. However, he navigated these storms and got back double of all he had prior to the storms.
- Hannah: The storm in this woman’s life was her inability to conceive. She was often subjected to mockery and scorn by Peninnah, her co-wife who had children. However, God did not remain silent to her plight. She was divinely visited in a supernatural manner such that she gave birth to Samuel and even five other children. (1 Samuel 1, 2)
- Jabez: This man had a storm in his life which made prosperity to be extremely far from him. However, he cried out unto the God of Israel, and God calmed the raging sea storm in his life. (1 Chronicles 4:9-10)
- Esther: Esther faced a storm when a decree to kill her people was given courtesy of the wicked and evil Haman. However, her prompt intervention and prayers went a long way as Haman was hanged on the gallows which he had prepared for Mordecai.
SEARCHLIGHT:
Storms come, not to totally leave us miserable, but to make us exercise our faith. God will be not bring storms our way without providing an escape route for us.
PRAYER:
O Lord, give me peace in the midst of my adversities, in Jesus’ Mighty name.
