THE FOLLY OF HUMAN INTERVENTION IN DIVINE AGENDA 2
SEPTEMBER 16, 2025
TEXT: Genesis 30:1-3
KEY VERSE: (Genesis 30:3) And she said, Behold my maid Bilhah, go in unto her; and she shall bear upon my knees, that I may also have children by her.
Today, we shall round up the discussion we commenced yesterday by examining the lives of some biblical characters who tried to “help” God, thereby ultimately resulting in folly on their part.
1. Abraham and Sarah: Sarah was barren for a greater part of her life. She became so frustrated that she urged Abraham to sleep with their house maid, Hagar. Both of them failed to speak to God but simply took things their own way. The help ended up complicating things for the world as the world is still yet to recover from the repercussion of Abraham’s illicit act with Hagar that produced Ishmael.
2. King Saul: King Saul was urged to remain in Gilgal for seven days while the Prophet Samuel would come and offer a sacrifice which was his duty to offer. Unfortunately, Samuel delayed and Saul, out of haste & impatience, decided to help God by offering the sacrifice himself. The repercussion was terrible as it marked the beginning of his downfall in the sight of God. (1 Samuel 13:8-14)
3. The Israelites: God brought out the Israelites from Egypt and having brought them out, it showed that He had good plans for them. Unfortunately, Moses went to the mountain to receive the ten commandments and this made them force Aaron to make a golden calf for them. The Israelites felt that they owed their own guidance and protection to themselves, and that was why they were trying to carnally map out a way out for themselves. (Exodus 32)
4. Moses: Moses did not come into full manifestation until he allowed God’s will to take place. He had been trying to help God in fulfilling God’s call. Firstly, he killed an Egyptian in a bid to carnally save his people, the Israelites. He thought he was doing things the right way. He was trying to help God, not knowing that God had a different blueprint for his ministry. It was when he started walking in line with that blueprint that he was able to fulfil his divinely-ordained assignment.
SEARCHLIGHT:
God does not need our help. Any help we think we are offering to God may later impede our own breakthrough. We must allow God’s blueprint for our lives to take centre stage.
PRAYER:
O Lord, may I not be found helping you. I surrender to your blueprint for my life, in the name of Jesus.
