EVANGELISM AS A LIFESTYLE

EVANGELISM AS A LIFESTYLE

TEXT: But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: (1 Peter 3:15)

The call of God for us to go into the whole world and preach the gospel to everyone is meant for every believer and lover of Christ. It is not an evangelistic, pastoral, or apostolic assignment. It is meant for all and sundry.

The wish and desire of God is for evangelism to become a lifestyle and model life for all believers. Just as Social Studies defines culture as a way/pattern of life of a particular group of people, evangelism is also the way of life of believers. Freely we have been given the gift of salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ; freely we must also give. The same passion which was used to save us from the clutches and shackles of sin is what we are expected to demonstrate and manifest as believers that we are.

Evangelism is not something that believers should do when they have crusades and programmes, when they need more members in their churches, or when they are obliged to do so by church order. It is something we should do at every given time, opportunity, and circumstance. The fields are white with harvests, but labourers are few.

The Lord of harvest (Jesus Christ) is calling on you and me today to arise and take up our responsibilities and duties with immediate effect; for it is a divine obligation for anyone who confesses Jesus as Lord and personal saviour. Apart from these, another fact that we need to note as believers is that evangelism, as a lifestyle, connotes that Christ must be seen and reflected in our daily lives. It is not enough to proclaim Christ. Does our life reflect the Christ? Do people see us and commend the grace of God upon us, or do they merely shake their heads pitiably at us because of our contrasting lifestyle? Do people prefer to remain as sinners rather than you? All these are reality checks, and we need to ensure that our lives truly reflect the way and pattern of a truly saved believer. In summary, evangelism means the readiness to carry Christ everywhere we find ourselves, be it in the church, school, office, marketplace, public gatherings, etc.

Our lives should always reflect Christ. It is not only when we feel like it, but something that should be part and parcel of our daily lives as Christians.

PRAYER:
O Lord, help me to live a life of commitment to the great commission, in Jesus’ mighty name.
