SPIRIT-LED EVANGELISM (1)
NOVEMBER 14, 2025
TEXT: Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot. (Acts 8:29)
Evangelism is the heartbeat of God. Jesus died and rose again for us to receive eternal life. It is now our duty to transmit the source of this eternal life to all and sundry. Some evangelistic efforts will yield instantaneous results while others only yield momentary results or no results at all. This is because they were probably done in the power of the flesh rather than the spirit.
When the Holy Spirit is involved in evangelism, He leads you to the right person, gives you the right message and empowers your words to touch the hearts of the listeners.
In the given text, a full reading of the entire passage reveals Philip’s influence in the evangelistic mandate of the early church. It is very interesting to note that Philip was appointed as a deacon to serve tables along with six others in the early church. However, he was empowered and he built himself up more to earn an enviable position among the Apostles, such that his records are actually more relatable and prominent than some of them (This is not to belittle the huge sacrifice of the other Apostles, though).
When Philip went to Samaria, there was a massive “earthquake” of revival movement in the land, leading to the conversion of many, including Simon the magician.
After his assignment in Samaria, the Spirit of God led him to go towards the road between Jerusalem and Gaza. He was told to minister to an Ethiopian Eunuch who was struggling to comprehend what he was reading from the scriptures. Philip did not just decide to do it on his own. He was motivated by God to do it. The Holy Spirit initiated the act. God already knew that the Eunuch had a willing heart. All Philip needed to do was to obey.
SEARCHLIGHT: Before you evangelise, allow God to prepare their hearts and direct you appropriately on what to do. Many believers fail in evangelism because they run ahead of their Master, Holy Spirit.
PRAYER: O LORD, fill me with fresh fire for evangelism and soul winning, in the mighty name of Jesus.
