I HAVE NO MAN

I HAVE NO MAN

TEXT: JOHN 5:1-9

KEY VERSE: The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me. (v. 7)

Today’s topic borders on the importance of having unshakeable faith in God. Our faith in God must not waver. In our given text, we read the story of a man who had been paralyzed for 38 years. I mean 38 unproductive years of stagnancy, pain, helplessness, and unfruitfulness. Even when an Angel was commissioned to trouble the water regularly and bring about healing to the infirm there, he still couldn’t find healing.
Eventually, Jesus passed by that pool. He saw the man, had compassion on him, and asked him a simple question: “Will thou be made whole?” This was a simple question that required a simple answer. Unfortunately, the man, despite being with the Saviour of the world, was still sceptical. He claimed that he had no man to lead him to the pool. Thankfully, Jesus was still merciful to him and healed him.

This is the story of a man who had already totally pinned his hope on man. He felt that without man, he was helpless. The pool of Bethsaida in this instance represents and portrays limitation and fierce competition for survival. Once the angel stirred the water, the battle of who gets there first commenced. In that circumstance, it would have been difficult or almost impossible to get into the pool as a lame man, thereby making him conclude that without man, he had no hope.

Today, many of us are in that boat. We so much peg our hopes on money, human connection, family backing, politicians, etc. However, the truth is that God’s help is greater than any help that man can offer. The mentality that someone must help us by all means needs to stop. Excessive dependence on people can leave you in your comfort zone. You become so complacent and relaxed that you are not ready to work out your life and destiny.

SEARCHLIGHT: When God, rather than men, is the centre focus of your attention, all impossibilities become possibilities.

PRAYER: O LORD, give me the grace to have undivided trust in you, in Jesus’ mighty name.
