THE POWER OF THE SECRET PLACE 1
MAY 15, 2026
TEXT: “But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.” (Matthew 6:6)
The secret place is a place of personal and intense fellowship with God. It is a spiritual atmosphere of deep intimacy and connection with God. It is a place where a believer settles things with God as regards his destiny.
For a man to shake the world, he must have a secret place. For a man to ensure that his life follows the heavenly script, he must be connected to the secret place.
Simply put, the secret place is a place of “making” and “formation.”
If you follow the trajectory of Jesus’ earthly ministry, you will realize that He never preached or ministered publicly without first communicating with His Father. He was always withdrawing from the public to pray in different places, most notably the mountains and the garden of Gethsemane. (Luke 5:16)
Our God is more interested in personal interactions and fellowship rather than just public worship. He urged us to draw nigh unto Him so He can also draw nigh unto us (James 4:8).
PECULIAR ATTRIBUTES OF THE SECRET PLACE
- It is a place of separation. To function optimally in the secret place, we must be completely separated and yielded unto God. There must be complete separation from worldly distractions, sins, and human hindrances.
- It is a place where everyone must come plainly before God. There is no need to pretend because God sees and knows all that is in our hearts. Pour out your heart before Him and ask for help.
- It is a place of strength refilling and renewing. Everyone that waits upon the LORD shall have his/her strength renewed (Isaiah 40:31). Many believers are spiritually weak today because they neglect private prayers and fellowship with God. The secret place endows a person with strength to navigate difficult seasons.
SEARCHLIGHT: A man without a secret place is vulnerable to the whims and caprices of the devil.
PRAYER: O LORD, help me to tarry in Your presence, in Jesus’ name.
