ANOINTING FOR SOUL-WINNING 1

TEXT: But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth (Acts 1:8)
Even though our greatest task from above is the Great Commission, it must be noted that no one has the power to save souls on his own without the influence of God. As evangelists, we may preach, and teachers may also teach. However, fruitfulness and increase are given by God. Only God can convict a sinner’s soul. This was the main reason Jesus told His disciples not to launch out of Jerusalem until they had been endowed with power from above. The disciples definitely had no problem pertaining to being self-equipped. They spent three and a half years with Jesus Christ during His earthly ministry. They had already heard many things and seen a lot as well. Despite all these, Jesus still told them to wait for the Holy Spirit to manifest. He knew that anointing complements knowledge.
In the Scriptures, anointing represents divine enablement and endowment for a God-given assignment. Priests were anointed for spiritual services (Exodus 29:7). Kings were anointed for leadership (1 Samuel 16:13). Prophets were anointed for ministry (1 Kings 19:16). The oil represented God’s Spirit resting upon a person for divine work. Jesus Himself ministered under anointing (Isaiah 61:1, Luke 4:18). If Christ Himself ministered under the anointing, how much more should those of us who are believers?
The anointing is the power of the Holy Spirit (Acts 10:38). Soul-winning is spiritual warfare. Human ability alone is insufficient.
WHY IS THE ANOINTING NECESSARY FOR SOUL-WINNING?
- A sinner is spiritually dead, and a dead person cannot respond unless life is imparted. No amount of eloquence can resurrect a spiritually dead soul. Only the Holy Spirit is capable of doing such. The Gospel can only become life-giving when empowered by the Spirit.
- Many unbelievers are spiritually blind. The anointing which a person receives for evangelism can break spiritual blindness.
- Conviction comes from the Holy Spirit (John 16:8). The preacher proclaims, while the Holy Spirit convicts.
SEARCHLIGHT: Evangelism requires more than intellect or oratory prowess. All these will fail if you don’t connect to the “Owner of the work” to do His work and find expression through you.
PRAYER: O LORD, release upon me the anointing that I need to spread Your Word, in Jesus’ Mighty Name.
