WITNESSING VIA GOOD WORKS
OCTOBER 24, 2026
TEXT: That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world (Philippians 2:15).
Today, we shall be discussing how Christ can be made manifest, not only in words but also in deeds. As believers, we are expected to make Christ very visible in our conduct, service, compassion, and integrity. Good works do not replace preaching the gospel, but they complement whatever is being said. They make the speaker or preacher more credible. Jesus taught that our lives as believers must be so exemplary that people will glorify our Father in heaven.
As a believer, you need to ask yourself some salient questions:
- Does your presence in any way introduce godliness into your home, office, church, or community?
- Do people see you and find it difficult to speak ill of you in any way?
Our lives must reflect Christ, even before we open our mouths to speak.
Today, many people preach one way of life, but their lives reflect something completely different, forgetting that people around us study us more than they listen to us. Apostle Peter encouraged us to maintain honourable conduct among the people. A life of consistent light will surely win more people to God (1 Peter 2:11-12; 3:15-16).
A Christian’s lifestyle can either propel or undermine the gospel. As stated earlier, most people are more interested in how the Word we preach has positively impacted our own lives than in how we seek to make it impact theirs. Hypocrisy makes people reject the message, while integrity makes them more inquisitive about the gospel. When people experience genuine acts of love, kindness, patience, and temperance, they are genuinely moved, at least to a reasonable extent, from the beginning.
Finally, any good work you are doing in furtherance of the gospel must be done genuinely and sincerely, not with the intention of gaining publicity (Matthew 5:13-16).
SEARCHLIGHT: Witnessing is good, but your lifestyle is the one doing the witnessing indirectly. Keep a good record and a clean sheet in all areas of your life in order to make every work of evangelism easier.
PRAYER: O LORD, let my life be an expression of YOU, in Jesus’ mighty name.
BIBLE READING: Isaiah 4-6; Mark 11.
