THE PATHWAY OF GENUINE REPENTANCE I
DECEMBER 13, 2024
TEXT: If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14)
Repentance, as we all know, simply entails being genuinely sober for a particular sin. It means acknowledging or identifying one’s sin and showing willingness to turn a new leaf. For repentance to be said to have genuinely taken place, four things must be in place, namely: recognition of sin, remorse for that sin, renunciation of sin, and ultimately reconciliation with God Almighty. It goes beyond a verbal declaration of remorse.
WHY IS REPENTANCE VITAL?
Repentance helps to bring us back to our prior relationship with God. (Luke 15)
It revives and awakens us spiritually.
It contributes favourably to our personal growth. The more we neglect our sins, the more we grow in the realm of the spirit.
STEPS TOWARDS ACTUALIZING REPENTANCE
✅ Identify yourself as a sinner who needs help. (Romans 3:23)
✅ Confess that sin to God, who is just and faithful to forgive. (1 John 1:9)
✅ Totally neglect and renounce that sin. Don’t go back to your vomit. Strive to live a life that is holy and that pleases God.
✅ Ask God to empower you to build a stable relationship with Him, and if you had one before you backslid, ask Him for divine restoration and renewal.
SEARCHLIGHT: The longer you delay returning to God, the more you put your life in jeopardy.
PRAYER: O Lord, wherever I have missed it in this journey, let there be a divine restoration, in the name of Jesus.
