THE PLACE OF MEEKNESS IN GETTING ONE’S BREAKTHROUGH
DECEMBER 22, 2024
TEXT: But Naaman was wroth, and went away, and said, “Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of the LORD his God, and strike his hand over the place, and recover the leper.” (2 Kings 5:11)
Many people desire to receive breakthroughs from God. However, they often fail to realize that to obtain something from God, there are steps and processes that must be meticulously followed. Things don’t just happen at will. Today’s discussion centers on a man named Naaman. In 2 Kings 5, Naaman was described with positive attributes, such as being a mighty man of valor. However, the verse ends on a negative note, describing him as a leper.
During a recent battle between the Israelites and Syrians, a young Israelite girl captured and serving Naaman’s wife suggested that Prophet Elisha could heal his leprosy. Thankfully, he yielded. Unfortunately, he found it offensive when the prophet instructed him to bathe in the River Jordan, preferring instead to bathe in either the Abana or Pharpar Rivers. His servants beseeched him to comply, and he reluctantly did, only to discover he had been healed. He then returned to appreciate the prophet with gifts, which the prophet declined.
This story emphasizes the effect of demonstrating pride while seeking something from God. Certain conditions may be stipulated, which may not align with our preferences. However, the outcome is what matters, and those seeking results must be willing to follow the processes. Naaman was so full of himself, expecting the prophet to reverence his position as Syria’s army captain and lay hands on him to cleanse the affected spot. He failed to realize that God’s ways differ from humanity’s.
Thankfully, his servants entreated him, convincing him to follow the prophet’s instructions.
SEARCHLIGHT: Trusting God’s sovereignty requires humility, even when His methods defy logic.
PRAYER: O Lord, may I not miss my opportunity due to arrogance, in the name of Jesus.
