A LIFE THAT PLEASES GOD
DECEMBER 17, 2025
TEXT: 1 Thessalonians 4:1-2
KEY VERSE: Furthermore, then, we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as you have received from us how you ought to walk and to please God, so you would abound more and more. (v. 1)
Apostle Paul’s message to the Thessalonians here was to the effect that Christianity is a race of commitment and dedication rather than one of pleasure or revelling. Christianity is not a nominal event. It is not an event that is meant to be exercised only on Sundays. The walk we have with God shows or reflects our faith much more than our words. The way we lead our lives goes a long way to prove who we are to the outside world, rather than just what we claim to believe in. Our claims don’t matter to God. What matters is our way of life and our adherence to kingdom principles. All our spiritual race on earth is targeted at one major thing: “to please God”. The goal of Christianity is not to find personal comfort, even though it is one of the long-term packages that salvation has in store for us once we come to the knowledge of Christ.
To please God means:
- To be intentional about obeying His commands at all times.
- To ensure that you don’t act without seeking the will, intention, and desire of God concerning the issue.
- Telling yourself that you can’t always please everyone. You need to let go of some people in order to cleave completely to God. The truth is that if you want to please God, you will surely need to offend people who think their opinions are unrivalled.
- Submission to heavenly guidance. He who is ready to please God must not lean on his own understanding in terms of decision-making.
- Ensuring that you continually grow and develop yourself in the things of the Spirit and the kingdom. That is, don’t be spiritually stagnant.
These go on to show that pleasing God is a full-time assignment that requires you to be on guard every moment. God is interested in our all-round manifestation and growth, and He also demands full loyalty and trust from us.
SEARCHLIGHT:
You need to ask yourself this profound question: “What can God infer from your lifestyle? Does your walk with God bring joy to Him, or does it grieve Him?”
PRAYERS:
O Lord, help me to please You in all my ways, in the mighty name of Jesus.
