A TOUCH OF HEALING: THE POWERFUL CLEANSING OF CHRIST

TEXT: Leviticus 15:1–18

KEY VERSE: “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘When a man has a bodily discharge, the discharge is unclean.” (Leviticus 15:2)

In the time of Moses, God’s law declared that some people or things could be “unclean.” This didn’t always mean sinful—it often meant they weren’t fit to take part in worship. For example, pigs were unclean and couldn’t be used for sacrifices. Touching a dead body also made someone unclean, and they had to stay away from worship until they were cleansed.

In our Bible reading today, a man with a bodily discharge (called a “running issue”) was considered unclean. Everything he touched—his bed, clothes, or chair—became unclean too. Anyone who touched those things also became unclean. God gave specific instructions for how to become clean again, including washing, waiting, and offering sacrifices. These rules helped the people understand the importance of being clean before coming to God in worship.

In Leviticus 15:13–15, we see that after someone got better from the discharge, they had to bring a sin offering to God. This shows that the people believed sickness could be linked to sin and needed forgiveness. The offering was a way to show repentance and seek restoration.

But today, we don’t need to offer animals for our sins. Jesus Christ became our sacrifice when He died on the cross. He broke the power of sin, sickness, and oppression over our lives. Because of Him, we can be healed and set free.

The Bible tells us in Proverbs 4:20–22 that God’s word brings life and healing. It’s more than just a book—it’s medicine for our body, soul, and spirit. When we listen to and obey God’s word, it strengthens us in every part of our lives.

Jesus didn’t just forgive sins—He healed the sick. Isaiah 53:5 says, “By His wounds we are healed.” This means that Jesus’ suffering on the cross brings us both salvation and healing. If you are sick or hurting today, you don’t have to stay that way. Healing is available to you through faith in Jesus.

The Gospels tell a powerful story of a woman who had suffered from bleeding for twelve years. She had spent all her money on doctors but only got worse. Then she came to Jesus. She believed that if she could just touch the edge of His robe, she would be healed. And she was! Jesus told her, “Your faith has made you whole.” Her story shows us that no matter how long we’ve suffered, no matter how unclean we feel, one touch from Jesus can make us completely well—body, mind, and soul.

SEARCHLIGHT: No sin is too great, no stain too deep, that Jesus’ blood can’t wash it clean. His sacrifice brings total forgiveness and healing.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, cleanse me by Your blood and make me whole. Heal every part of me—body, soul, and spirit—and restore my walk with You. Amen.

BIBLE READING: Psalms 141-143, Revelation 6
