BELIEVERS AS SOURCES OF BLESSINGS
SEPTEMBER 3, 2025
TEXT: Genesis 12:2-3
KEY VERSE: (V.3) And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
The blessing of God is what many of us crave for as believers that we are. As a matter of fact, we all see it as our reward for being children of God. By virtue of that, many fail to actually realize the true purpose of God in blessing His children. We become so carried away that we monopolize the blessings to ourselves. A full reading of the passage where our text is gotten reveals the life of our great Patriarch, Abraham, who was promised all manners of blessings by God for his dogged obedience and commitment to the things of God. However, there was a clause attached to God’s promise. He said, “through you, all nations of the earth will be blessed”. God was being intentional in making it known that Abraham would be a conduit or a pipe to channel God’s blessings to others on earth. Beloved, when God blesses you, it is not time to think of yourself alone.
- When God blesses you with that admission, it could be for you to bless the lives of those around you by leading them to Christ or to help them in other ways.
- When that money finally comes, it is not for you to start buying cars, clothes, shoes, household items, lands, stocks, etc. alone. It is time for you to contribute to alleviating the endless struggles around you. Someone is hungry around you. Are you not one of those that suddenly have money and then start seeing everyone around you as lazy even though you were also once helpless like them?
- When God answers your prayer regarding that spouse, it is for you to be a blessing to others by encouraging other waiting brothers and sisters to genuinely wait in the Lord and that God is still in the business of answering prayers. From these examples above, we can infer that blessing others goes beyond just giving them money, food, cloth, mobile phone, shoes, etc. When you attend or minister to a person’s physical, emotional, spiritual, mental or psychological needs as a believer, you are indirectly being a blessing to such a person. Abraham was promised great enlargement and multiplication, not just for his household to flourish, but for him to transmit those blessings to those around who might be in need of any such blessing.
