BURN THE BRIDGE

TEXT: Luke 9:62

KEY VERSE: “No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” (Luke 9:62)

As we move forward in our Christian journey, God calls us to stay focused and committed. Following Christ is not a part-time decision; it is a complete surrender. Jesus reminds us that anyone who looks back after choosing to follow Him cannot fully serve in His kingdom.

In the physical sense, a bridge connects two places. Spiritually, a bridge represents anything that still connects us to our old life—sinful habits, wrong relationships, worldly desires, or attitudes that pull us away from God. To burn the bridge means to completely cut off every link that leads us back to the life we left at the cross.

God does not want us to keep an escape route to the world. When the bridge is still there, going back becomes easy. But when the bridge is burned, our only option is to move forward with God. Burning the bridge helps us stay firm, focused, and faithful in our walk with Christ.

To burn the bridge, we must take deliberate spiritual steps:

B – Break away from relationships that hinder your walk with God (Luke 16:13).
U – Untie yourself from past immoral and unprofitable associations (2 Corinthians 6:17).
R – Refuse activities and habits that draw you back to the world (1 John 2:15–17).
N – Nurture your soul daily with God’s Word through reading and meditation (Colossians 3:16).
T – Talk to God always in prayer for strength and guidance (Luke 18:1; 1 Thessalonians 5:17).
H – Have regular fellowship with other believers for encouragement (Hebrews 10:25).
E – Engage actively in God’s work through service and evangelism (1 Corinthians 15:58).
B – Believe that God is able to keep you from falling (Jude 1:24).
R – Reach for higher spiritual growth; as you grow, the world loses its hold on you (Philippians 3:13–14).
I – Increase your commitment and dedication to God every day (2 Peter 1:4–8).
D – Determine never to return to a sinful lifestyle (2 Peter 2:20).
G – Guard your heart carefully against wrong thoughts and temptations (Proverbs 4:23; 1 Peter 5:8).
E – Expect the coming of the Lord and live with eternity in view (Hebrews 11:14–16).

A serious walk with God requires total separation from the old life. You cannot move forward spiritually while holding on to what God has asked you to leave behind. Burning the bridge helps you stay focused and faithful.

In conclusion, when you burn the bridge behind you, you make room for a new beginning with God and a stronger, more consistent Christian life.

SEARCHLIGHT: When the bridge is burned, going back is no longer an option—only moving forward with God.

PRAYER: Father, help me to cut off every connection to the world and give me the strength and grace to follow You faithfully until the end.
