TEXT: MATTHEW 5:13-14

KEY VERSE: Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

Just as we know, the main essence of salt is to add value. Salt adds value to food. No matter the effort expended in preparing a meal, once it doesn’t contain salt, the effort is as good as being a wasted one. So also must our lives as believers portray value. God has directed us to go into the world and preach the gospel to all nations and win them over to him. (Acts 1:8).

However, for us to succeed in this endeavour, our lives must not lack “salt”, i.e. value. When salt loses value, it is no longer suitable. Rather, it is thrown out and stepped upon by passersby.

Our lives as believers must add value and portray goodness to mankind, otherwise, the gospel we so much strive to preach automatically becomes bland and tasteless to the target audience. As believers, we need to “season” the world with the agape love of Christ in all our deeds. (James 2:14-17). When an unbeliever sees this, it becomes easier to preach your God to him.

People are watching. You can’t be brutal, grumpy and wicked in your environment, then rise up during evangelism and outreaches to demonstrate fake love and smiles to those same people you have always despised in the past. They are all watching and your emergency or momentary acts of kindness do not erase your previous bad deeds from their acts. This is a clarion call to all of us today to ensure that we always maintain good works at all times, and not only when we want to preach the gospel. Our own lives must be seasoned with the salt of value.

Most people focus on individuals rather than the scriptures. We the believers are the figurative Bibles to unbelievers. Whatever wrong step you take is consequently interpreted as the norm and tradition of the church. When an unbeliever sees a church minister caught in adultery/fornication, he immediately concludes in his heart that if this is the way of the church, then I’d rather remain in the world of iniquity. May you and I not be the cause of others’ fall or stumble in Jesus’ Mighty name.

SEARCHLIGHT:
O Lord, help me to possess the needed values to spread your word to others, in Jesus’ Mighty name. O Lord, on the last day, may I not be a castaway after spreading your word, in the Mighty name of Jesus.
