TEXT: MATTHEW 5:13-14

KEY VERSE: Ye are the light of the world; a city set on a hill cannot be hidden

Light shines in darkness. Light is meant to illuminate. Whenever light appears, darkness disappears. No wonder the popular song writer, Min. Dunsin Oyekan stated in his song thus: where’s darkness at the sight of light? Evaporated at the glimpse of light!

Jesus addressed us as the light of the world, attesting to the fact that we are to manifest the life of Christ anywhere we find ourselves. It is a veritable tool of evangelism that the light of Christ and godliness must first radiate in our lives before we attempt to transmit same to others.
How can you transmit a light you don’t have to others?
How can two blind men lead each other to cross a busy express road?
Won’t they be crushed to death?

As believers, one of the best ways of reaching the unsaved is to manifest the life of Christ. It beggars belief, just as emphasised yesterday, that many behave anyhow in their environment, but believe that during evangelism, their sins will be wiped away all of a sudden and they can effortlessly preach the gospel (that they themselves desperately need) to those around them. The same person who never opens his tap or well for others suddenly starts trying to preach the love of Christ to those same people. That will not work, brothers and sisters.

The process of manifesting the light of Christ is not a sudden occurrence. It’s not one that comes upon a person at the spur of the moment. Your good works over a period of time will illuminate Christ to unbelievers around you. Even if they don’t accept your God immediately, you have successfully left something in them to ponder about, and the Holy Spirit will take over from there.

KEY TIPS ON HOW TO MANIFEST EVERYDAY INFLUENCE FOR GOD

  1. Don’t be easily compromised. Be a person of standard and principles. This will go a long way in portraying you and the God you seek to introduce to others in a good light.
  2. Let your words be seasoned with light. Don’t talk anyhow because you are in the midst of ungodly friends that must be duly gratified and pleased.
  3. Be a man of truth and integrity, even in the smallest of things. Let it not be said that a pastor or believer misappropriated or stole office funds for his personal use. It is a great stain and will do no good to our evangelistic quests.
  4. Be hospitable to all around you. Show Christ’s love and light to them. In essence, for the work of evangelism to be successful, the light that we so much seek to portray to others must be inherent in our own lives.
