FAIR-WEATHER FAITH IN GOD 2
OCTOBER 9, 2025
TEXT:
2 And the whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness:
3 And the children of Israel said unto them, Would to God we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots, and when we did eat bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger (Exodus 16:2–3).
Today, we shall continue our discussion from where we stopped yesterday as regards the issue of having unwavering faith in the God of Israel. Below are some additional points/key facts to buttress the foundation that has already been laid in yesterday’s teaching:
- Instead of complaining, seek the face of God over any form of challenge that comes your way. We should desist from always complaining about persons, factors, and circumstances that surround us. Rather, we should focus on working on our unbelief.
- Sometimes, our complaints are like direct insults to God and His sovereignty. In murmuring against Moses, the Israelites said, “…you have brought us into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger” (Exodus 16:3). Indeed, the complaints were channeled towards Moses and Aaron. Regardless, the duo were God’s representatives in their midst. Thus, any insult or finger-pointing was invariably aimed at God in heaven. The Israelites were simply telling God, “God, you haven’t done well!”
- Excess complaining can inhibit a believer’s spiritual growth. Their progress was greatly hampered by various instances of faithlessness. It was so bad that many people from that generation couldn’t eventually make it to the Promised Land.
- Before you complain, God knows all you actually need. His acts of delay sometimes are not really delays in the real sense. Sometimes, He delays you to protect you from harm which you can’t see or envisage. The LORD was simply trying to test their obedience, but they failed woefully. He brought them out of Egypt and, of course, didn’t need to be told that they would need food, water, etc. (Exodus 16:4).
SEARCHLIGHT: Don’t let your wilderness experience rob you of faith in God; faith that is unconditional or unlimited.
PRAYERS: My God, be with me in my wilderness experience, in the mighty name of Jesus.
