GRATITUDE: THE RIGHT ATTITUDE
January 9, 2025
TEXT: “Give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.” – Psalm 107:1 (KJV)
As we begin a new week, it’s important to cultivate the right spirit of gratitude. The Bible encourages us to give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good and His mercy endures forever (Psalm 107:1).
In a world filled with challenges and uncertainties, it’s easy to overlook the blessings and goodness of God. However, gratitude is a powerful tool that can transform our lives and our perspective. When we focus on what we’re thankful for, we begin to see the world in a new light. We start to notice the small blessings that often go unnoticed – a beautiful sunrise, a good cup of coffee, a supportive friend.
So, what are some reasons to be grateful? Let’s start with the basics. Be thankful for your life, for the breath that you take, and for the opportunities that you have. Be thankful for your family and friends, for the love and support that they provide. Be thankful for the beauty of nature, for the sun that shines, and for the rain that falls.
Be thankful for the gift of salvation, for the forgiveness of sins, and for the promise of eternal life. Be thankful for the Bible, for the guidance and wisdom that it provides. Be thankful for the church, for the community and fellowship that it offers.
As we cultivate a spirit of gratitude, we also learn to express our thanks to God and to others. The apostle Paul is a great example of someone who practiced gratitude despite facing challenging times. In his second letter to the Corinthians, he wrote, “Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort” (2 Corinthians 1:3). Paul was grateful for God’s comfort and mercy, even in the midst of persecution and hardship. He also expressed gratitude to his colleagues and friends, such as Timothy and Epaphroditus, for their support and partnership in the gospel (Philippians 1:3-5, 2:19-30).
SEARCHLIGHT: Gratitude is a powerful tool that can transform our lives and our perspective.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me to cultivate a spirit of gratitude. Help me to see the blessings and goodness in my life, and to express my thanks to You and to others.
