LIGHT IN DARKNESS

TEXT: “The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalms 27:1)

The Psalmist had so much confidence in the power and might of the God of Israel, thereby making it easy to describe the LORD as his “light” and “salvation.” The term “light” means illumination. Light is anything that brightens or gives vision and visibility to another. In the figurative sense, light is anyone or anything that promotes your destiny, gives you insight, and provides enlightenment. Light illuminates and brightens one’s path.

KEY FACTS ABOUT LIGHT

  1. Light removes darkness and uncertainty. When the journey of life appears tempestuous, cumbersome, and blurry, light shines to introduce clarity and certainty.
  2. Darkness does not mean God is absent or uncaring. There are dark seasons occasionally in our lives, which should not be taken as God forsaking us. They are simply trying times that will fade and pass away.
  3. Light reveals the evil machinations of the enemy. Through light, many cryptic agendas of the enemy are clearly made manifest. He reveals traps being set by the enemy, thereby weakening them and rendering them unable to perform their evil enterprises (Job 5:12, Psalm 33:10).
  4. Light gives hope and assurance in times of trials. Even the smallest glimmer of light can be encouraging to one in times of darkness. Thus, light represents hope, optimism, and assurance.
  5. Light is a source of direction. Without light, one becomes confused about what to do and where to go. However, when light shows, directions become certain, and decision-making on destiny matters becomes clearer.
  6. Light eliminates fear. No man can tarry long on a dark forest path without, at least, an atom of fear. Light gives confidence and boldness in any endeavor that one engages in.

HOW TO MAKE GOD YOUR LIGHT

  1. Surrender all to Him. Invite Him into the boat of your life.
  2. Do not lean on your own understanding or strength. Call on Him for illumination (Proverbs 3:5-6). Once you turn to Him, He will surely direct your path.
  3. Study the Scriptures to find guidelines on divine illumination. Let His word shed light on your dark path (Psalm 119:105).
  4. Always be connected to the Holy Spirit in all you do, no matter how small it may seem. God is interested in everything about our lives, including the trivial ones.

PRAYERS: O LORD, let your light shine brightly to overwhelm every darkness on my path, in the Mighty name of Jesus Christ.
