LIVING A HOLY LIFE IN AN UNHOLY WORLD
NOVEMBER 29, 2024
TEXT: Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. (1 John 2:15)
Today, we will be examining the challenges associated with living a holy life in a world where people mostly value materialism, secularism, and selfishness. In fact, it has now reached a stage where holiness and purity in society are seen as being foolish or senseless. However, it is very important that we maintain our stand, focusing on the eternal glory that awaits us. Most of the world’s values are usually in conflict with the kingdom values that God desires. Every principle and practice of the world seems to be against Christ in every way. Cultural practices can shape and alter our values and behaviors, and it takes grace to stay firm and not be negatively influenced by the happenings in the world. (Romans 12:2)
PRACTICAL STRATEGIES FOR LEADING A HOLY LIFE
- Ensure that you set boundaries. Boundaries are very important in order to shield oneself from the negative influences of the world. (2 Corinthians 6:14-18)
- Prioritize your time with God. Lay special emphasis on your regular prayers, Bible study, and spiritual connection with God. (Psalm 119:9-11)
- Surround yourself with positive influences. Never underestimate the importance of having supportive Christian friends and family who can encourage and hold us accountable in our pursuit of holiness. (Hebrews 10:24)
- Be intentional about what you consume on media, such as TV shows, movies, music, and online social platforms. These things are capable of luring us to align with the standards of the world. (Philippians 4:8)
SEARCHLIGHT: Holiness is a virtue that must be protected in the world of today. To adhere to the principles of holiness requires strong self-will in a notorious world, and we must ensure that we do all we can to build up ourselves, despite all odds.
PRAYER: O Lord, shield me from every pollution and corruption of the world.
