TEXT: I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHO STRENGTHENS ME (PHILIPPIANS 4:13)

There is no human being on earth that does not have his/her own peculiar challenges and battles, ranging from financial to spiritual, academic, marital, emotional, etc. Even strong and well-revered Bible characters sometimes faced challenges and weaknesses in diverse areas of life.

However, such weaknesses are not meant to be the determining factors of how we lead our lives. We must live every day with the consciousness that we are capable of doing all things through our Lord and Saviour who endows us with supernatural strength.

The kind of confidence that can be deduced from this passage is not one that is borne out of self-confidence or personal might, but one that is based on the genuine trust and assurance that one has in Christ Jesus. This kind of confidence does not mean life is rosy or pleasant. It simply means that with the strength and backing of God, victory is certain.

Apostle Paul himself was in prison when he wrote this epistle, yet he had the assurance that he could do all things by the power of God, even if the situation doesn’t support your assertion at that particular time.

KEY DIFFERENCES BETWEEN CARNAL CONFIDENCE AND GODLY CONFIDENCE

  1. Carnal confidence relies on skills and personal might while Godly confidence relies on help from God. A carnally confident person believes that he can achieve anything with his knowledge, qualifications, certificates, exposures, and earthly diligence. However, a person with Godly confidence believes that no matter the earthly acquisitions that he has, he still needs the help of God in order to achieve the best.
  2. When a person has confidence in himself in a carnal way, it is very easy for such a person to bend and break in a time of adversity, tempest, and storm. However, when a person has Godly confidence, he will be able to hold on and navigate the murky waters of life.
