LIVING ON THE MOUNTAIN OF CONFIDENCE AND POSSIBILITY 3

TEXT: I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHO STRENGTHENS ME (PHILIPPIANS 4:13)
Today marks the conclusion of the topic which originally started two days ago. To reinforce all that we have discussed thus far, we shall be taking a look at various Bible characters who epitomised the declaration of confidence in Philippians 4:13.
BIBLICAL CHARACTERS WHO DEMONSTRATED CONFIDENCE IN GOD
- David: David demonstrated strength on several occasions, especially during his encounter with Goliath. In 1 Samuel 17:45-46, it was obvious that David could not have been trusting in his own strength in the way he addressed the Philistine. The Philistine obviously relied on his build, stature, years of military experience and other physical factors, but David’s confidence was in the God who made heaven and earth.
- The Hebrew boys in Babylon: These men’s confidence needs to be critically studied. Which normal man sees a fire ready to devour him for failing to obey a whole king, yet remains unflinching? These men were so rugged in their confidence in God that they were even ready to die if it eventually happened that God would not defend them from the fiery furnace. Daniel 3: 16-18
- Queen Esther: Esther knew what would befall anyone who went into the inner chamber of King Ahasuerus without being invited, yet she defied the existing norms of the land (albeit based on urgency) and made a very popular statement: “If I die, I die; if I perish, I perish”. For her to have said this, she was obviously not expecting to die just like that. Rather, her statement demonstrated a high level of confidence in the power of God to deliver.
- Apostle Paul: This man suffered enough to warrant him denying Christ and denying the gospel, yet he remained confident in his selfless service at all times. He was attacked several times (e.g. in Lystra, Ephesus and Thessalonica) and was imprisoned on several occasions, yet his confidence remained unwavering.
