LOOKING BACK WITH GRATITUDE

LOOKING BACK WITH GRATITUDE

DECEMBER 27, 2025

TEXT: PSALM 103

KEY VERSE: Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits (v. 2)

At the end of the year, businesses tend to count their profits or losses (as the case may be). The same thing applies to us as humans. Everyone tends to take stock and account of his life. This is in a bid to help us ascertain the level of progress made or the level of regression that might have taken place.

Unfortunately, many seem to only take cognisance of the evil and mischievous things that bedevilled their lives in the course of the year, thereby making gratitude difficult or almost an impossible exercise in their hearts. However, the scriptures have enjoined us to number our blessings and benefits, and our eyes will be opened to know why we need to appreciate God. It is by the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed. (Lamentations 3:22).

A heart of gratitude to God implies being appreciative and grateful to God for all He has done, regardless of whether or not things went smoothly for us. Yes, that contract might not have come through, that wedding plan might have collapsed, you did not land that dream job, you didn’t have the means of feeding well for most parts of the year, people largely forsaken you all through the year, and so many other seemingly negative things. However, all these things do not define your destiny, neither do they define the capacity of God over your life.

Gratitude softens the heart of God and makes Him more desirous of doing more for you. When one demonstrates gratitude for an act done previously, such a person will surely get more. Gratitude at this time of the year helps us to end the year appropriately and also prevents emotional carryover. It sets the tone for the next year and ensures that God remains continually involved in our affairs. Therefore, thank God for your preservation, victories and even defeats as there is a purpose for everything that has happened to you.

SEARCHLIGHT: Give God the glory and stop being unnecessarily anxious over what you have no control of, as our times, destiny and manifestation are all in God’s hands.

PRAYERS: O Lord, give me a heart of gratitude, in Jesus’ mighty name.
