NURTURING NEW CONVERTS THROUGH GOD’S WORD
February 8, 2025
TEXT: “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby” (1 Peter 2:2, KJV)
Believers are not only called to win souls, but also to nurture and disciple new converts, helping them to grow in their faith and become mature followers of Christ. One of the most effective ways to do this is through the teaching and application of God’s Word.
Just as a newborn baby needs milk to grow and develop, new converts need the “sincere milk of the word” to grow in their faith. This means that we need to feed them with the pure and unadulterated teachings of Scripture, helping them to understand and apply its principles to their lives. Thus, new converts need to be fed with the basics of the faith before they can handle more advanced teachings. As we nurture new believers through God’s Word, we need to remember that our main goal is to help them develop a deep and personal relationship with Christ. We need to encourage them to read and study Scripture for themselves, and to apply its teachings to their everyday lives.
However, we must not forget the crucial role of prayer in achieving results in the lives of new converts. As we teach and disciple them, we must also pray fervently for them, asking God to open their hearts and minds to His Word, and to empower them to live out their faith in obedience to Him. The apostle Paul wrote, “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints” (Ephesians 6:18, KJV). Let us commit to praying regularly for the new converts in our midst, that they may grow in their faith and become strong disciples of Christ.
