OVERCOMING SELF-RIGHTEOUSNESS (CONT’D)

OVERCOMING SELF-RIGHTEOUSNESS (CONT’D)

February 24, 2025

TEXT: “And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?” (Matthew 7:3)

Today, we shall conclude our discussion on the dangers of self-righteousness as a believer/Christian.

HOW TO BREAK FREE FROM SELF-RIGHTEOUSNESS

  1. Pay attention to your own inadequacies: As we elaborated yesterday, no one is created perfectly adequate. Everyone has their areas of strength and weakness. (1 John 1:8, Romans 3:23). It is therefore wrong to focus solely on the flaws of others while turning a blind eye to our own inadequacies. As Matthew 7:3-5 aptly puts it, it is when you remove the beam in your own eye that your vision will be enhanced to clearly see the faults in your brethren.
  2. Focus more on your personal development: Channel the energy you would have used to judge others into adding more value to yourself. We should constantly examine our ways and patterns to ascertain if we are still in line with the godly pathway. (Galatians 6:4)
  3. Also, learn to be humble and lowly in heart. Recognize that your position is a result of grace, and being able to overcome certain things does not mean everyone is not striving positively. (1 Peter 5:5)

SEARCHLIGHT: Two blind men cannot lead themselves aright. They will both fall into the ditch. You cannot be battling with inadequacies and claim that you have now gained the liberty to chastise and judge others around you. It does not work in that manner.

PRAYER: O Lord, show me the secrets I need to know about my life and destiny, in Jesus’ mighty name.

BIBLE READING: 1 Samuel 8-10, 1 Corinthians 3
