PASSION FOR SPIRITUAL FRUITFULNESS
January 12, 2025
TEXT: “Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.” – Jeremiah 17:7-8 (KJV)
Beloved, as we journey through this new year, it’s essential to rekindle our passion for spiritual fruitfulness. The Bible reminds us that a life rooted in God bears fruit that honours Him. Just as a tree planted by the waters spreads out its roots and yields fruit, we too can experience spiritual growth and productivity when we trust in the Lord.
Our passion for spiritual fruitfulness should drive us to cultivate a deeper trust in God’s goodness and provision, seek opportunities to share God’s love with others, and prioritize spiritual growth and maturity.
As we pursue spiritual fruitfulness, let’s remember that it’s a journey, not a destination. We will face challenges and setbacks, but with perseverance and faith, we can overcome them. Let’s fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2).
In practical terms, our passion for spiritual fruitfulness can be demonstrated through simple acts of kindness, compassion, and generosity. We can share a word of encouragement, offer a listening ear, or provide a helping hand. As we do so, we will not only bear fruit that honours God but also inspire others to do the same.
The apostle Paul reminds us in Galatians 5:22-23 that the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance. These qualities are not produced by our own efforts, but rather by the Holy Spirit working within us. As we yield to the Spirit’s leading, we will begin to exhibit these characteristics, demonstrating spiritual fruitfulness in our lives.
As we walk in the Spirit, we will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh (Galatians 5:16-17). Instead, we will experience freedom from the bondage of sin and a deeper relationship with God. This is the essence of spiritual fruitfulness – a life that honors God and reflects His character.
