PRAYER AS A WAY OF LIFE

PRAYER AS A WAY OF LIFE

TEXT: Pray without ceasing. 1 Thessalonians 5:17

While we were in primary (elementary) school, we were taught in social studies that “culture is a way of life of a group of people”. For something to be called a way of life, it simply means that such a practice has been embedded into a person’s daily routine. As believers, prayer is not something we should do only when we feel like it. Prayer is not an option for a believer; it is our spiritual fuel and engine. No car can move without fuel and an engine. Similarly, we cannot go far without prayers and constant fellowship with God. The Apostle Paul admonished us to pray without ceasing. The Bible, in different parts, explains and reiterates the need for ceaseless prayers. (Psalms 55:17, Luke 18:1).

Beloved, we live in a cruel and dangerous world where we cannot afford to live a spiritual life that is lukewarm. We cannot afford to be spiritually neutral and nonchalant. This is a world where you don’t need to offend anyone before you are attacked. Attack, they say, is the best form of defense. If you keep safeguarding yourself from the enemies, it doesn’t mean they won’t attack you. Therefore, it’s better you step up and take the battle to their camp. There are many battles that will never come to an end without proper labor in the place of prayers.

BENEFITS OF PRAYERS TO A BELIEVER

  1. It brings us peace and calmness, even in the most terrible circumstances.
  2. Prayers help us align our thoughts with God’s thoughts, thereby preventing us from taking the wrong steps.
  3. It helps us build up our faith. When we commit our needs to God’s hands, we build up our faith in Him.
  4. It takes us to the level of intense relationship and fellowship with God, rather than just a routine exercise.
