PRESS UNTIL SOMETHING HAPPENS

TEXT: LUKE 18:35-43

KEY VERSE: And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, Thou son of David, have mercy on me. (Luke 18:39)

The hand of the Lord is not heavy, and His ears are not heavy, warranting Him not to save or hear our prayers. However, there are instances where circumstances may inhibit us from having access to prompt answers to our prayers and supplications. Sometimes, we pray and heaven seems silent or closed.

Bartimaeus had been blind, probably for a very long time, and it was already a custom to have him sit beside the road, begging for alms from passers-by to sustain himself. He didn’t matter in the scheme of things to anyone. As far as they were concerned, he was a mere beggar deserving of little or no attention. However, on this particular day, Jesus Christ was passing through that street on His way to heal Jairus’ daughter after He had already healed the woman with the issue of blood.

Bartimaeus, oblivious to why there was so much unusual pandemonium and restiveness along that road, asked those around him what the matter was and was informed that the Messiah was passing that way. As if on an impulse, he began to scream loudly, calling for Jesus to have mercy on him. The crowd around tried to take away his voice by telling him to shut up, but he persisted, culminating in Jesus sending for him, and that marked the beginning of his breakthrough and dramatic supernatural transformation.

There are instances where gentleness in prayers will not augur well for an individual. Certainly, God hears our voice, whether we speak loudly, quietly, repeatedly, etc. However, some battles are so strong, tough, disgraceful, and life/destiny-threatening that they will not go easily unless addressed in a bulldozing and persistent manner. Sometimes, our long-awaited testimonies can only locate us when we push continually until we strike gold and our joy is full.

We don’t need to come to God vague and ambiguous. We must be intentional about our requests and our way of presenting them unto God. Don’t hide your needs in the complexity of language, formality, and tenses. Come bare and honestly before God. In addition, don’t be deterred by any opposition or antagonism. Remain persistent because your testimonies will surely swallow them up in Jesus’ mighty name.

Blind Bartimaeus was so desperate in his cry for mercy that even Jesus was moved with compassion and called him unto Himself.

SEARCHLIGHT:
You know the kind of divine intervention your life needs. Be persistent. Do not be discouraged by seemingly unanswered prayers. Keep pushing!

PRAYER:
O Lord, answer me in a way that will stun and dumbfound my enemies, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.
