TEXT: Psalm 139:23-24; 33:13-14

Imagine a young man named John, a devout believer, who was going about his daily tasks at the church when he stumbled upon an unexpected temptation. A handful of money had fallen out of the offering box, and no one was around. Despite his conscience warning him, John was tempted to pocket the money, thinking no one would ever know. But as he reached out, he heard a sound from the doorway. It was his pastor, Reverend Brown. John’s heart skipped a beat. The money fell from his hand, and his conscience pricked him. What was he doing? John quickly scooped the money off the floor and stuffed it back into the offering box. His face flushed with embarrassment. Reverend Brown’s smile broadened. “Remember, John, that God is always watching you. He will guide you if you let Him.” John looked up at his pastor, his face a mixture of regret and gratitude. “Thank you, Pastor Brown. You’re right. I need to remember that God is always with me and always watching me.”

Both Psalms 139 and 33 remind us that God’s eyes are upon us, and that He watches over us. Psalm 139 specifically encourages us to let God search our hearts, to reveal any impurities or offenses that may be within us, so that we can be purified and made whole. In this way, the psalm emphasizes the need for personal examination and accountability to God. It’s a sad reality that many of us have forgotten the omnipresence of God. We go about our lives without regard for how our actions may displease Him. Yet, we quickly adjust our behavior when people we respect are around, out of fear of their disapproval. This skewed priority demonstrates a lack of understanding of God’s omniscience and righteousness.

It’s important to remember that God is not limited in His understanding of our actions and motives. He knows everything about us, even those things we may try to hide. We should strive to behave as though He is standing right beside us, evaluating our every decision and action. Ultimately, pleasing God should be our primary goal, not impressing people. The story of John is a perfect example of what can happen when we forget this truth. Let us not fall into the same trap.

When we make pleasing God our primary focus, everything else begins to fall into place. Our priorities shift, our actions become more aligned with His will, and we find ourselves living a life that is more fulfilling and purposeful. In a sense, we begin to see the world through God’s eyes, and this perspective brings with it a profound sense of peace and clarity. As we conclude our time together, let us remember that God is always watching. Let us remember that He loves us and wants the best for us. And let us commit to living our lives in a way that pleases Him, no matter who may be watching.

SEARCH LIGHT: Be mindful of God’s constant presence in your life, and strive to honor Him with your actions.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me to always be aware of Your presence in my life, and to honor You with all my actions.
