SEEING JESUS BEYOND THE VEIL OF TRADITION
APRIL 29, 2025
TEXT: Mark 8:10-21
KEY VERSE: Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember? Mark 8:18
The traditions of man are a slippery slope. They are like leaven, spreading their influence through our hearts and minds, polluting our understanding of the truth of God’s Word. The Pharisees provide a stark warning of the dangers of allowing human traditions to override divine truth. They were so blinded by their traditions that they missed the truth of God that was standing right before them. And not only that, they sought to prevent others from experiencing the truth as well. Jesus warned us about such people, saying that they were like wolves in sheep’s clothing, deceiving the innocent and leading them astray. And just as leaven cannot be removed from a batch of dough, the effects of traditions can be difficult to undo.
So, beloved in Christ, we must be vigilant against these insidious traditions that threaten to pollute our understanding of God’s Word. Instead, let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. Let us seek His guidance and wisdom, allowing Him to open our eyes to see beyond the veils of human doctrines and into the truth of His Word.
As we strive to see Christ beyond the veils of tradition, let us consider the following ways: Firstly, let us diligently study the Scriptures, for they are our source of truth and guidance. Secondly, let us surround ourselves with fellow believers who share our commitment to seeking the truth of God’s Word, for in their counsel we can more easily identify and address areas where human traditions may influence us. And lastly, let us always pray for wisdom and discernment, for it is only by the power of the Holy Spirit that we can comprehend the truth of God’s Word.
Beloved, as we seek to see Christ beyond the veils of tradition, let us remember that our goal is to grow in wisdom and understanding of God’s truth. Let us not be weighed down by the polluted doctrines of man, but let us fix our eyes on Jesus, our exemplar of righteousness. Let us strive to know the truth, not as the world teaches, but as the Holy Spirit reveals. Let us be willing to shed the false traditions that blind us to the light of Christ. And finally, let us be patient with ourselves as we embark on this journey of discernment. Like the Pharisees, we may have held onto false traditions for many years, and breaking free from them may be difficult. But take heart, for God is faithful, and He will guide you as you seek to walk in His truth.
As we do so, let us pray for wisdom, discernment, and an ever-growing love for the truth of God’s Word. For as we behold the glory of Christ beyond the veils of tradition, we will find ourselves transformed into His likeness, shining as stars in the darkness of this world. So let us step boldly into the light of Christ, knowing that He has overcome the darkness of human traditions and revealed the truth for all to see. Let us embrace His light and walk with Him, basking in the warmth of His love and grace. Amen.
SEARCH LIGHT: The traditions of man can cloud our vision, preventing us from seeing the truth of Christ.
PRAYER: Lord, I pray that You will open my eyes to see Your truth clearly and reveal any areas where human traditions may be hindering my walk with You.
