SINGLE NUGGETS: THE MOST BLESSED MAN (STUDY 3)
JUNE 10, 2025
TEXT: Proverbs 31:10-12; 12:4
KEY VERSE:
A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones. Proverbs 12:4
“You must be blind,” Luke scoffed at Caleb when he heard the news of his friend’s wedding. “Among all the women in the world, you choose this ugly woman?” But Caleb, with the patience of a wise man, said, “My friend, true beauty is not what meets the eye. It is what lies within the heart. This woman has a heart that is pure and golden, and that is what I value most.” So Luke set out on his quest for beauty. He found Evelyn, a woman whose beauty rivalled that of a goddess. Smitten, Luke ignored all the warning signs, and they wed. But as the days turned to weeks, and weeks to months, Luke realised his error. For while Evelyn was a vision to behold, her heart was as cold as stone. She had no warmth or compassion, treating Luke like a possession rather than a husband. Years passed, and their marriage became a prison for Luke, who had once been so filled with hope. Then, one terrible night, his heart finally gave way, and he collapsed from a stroke. As Luke lay dying, he remembered the warning of his friend Caleb. “Don’t carry a tree full of ants into your home, lest you suffer the painful bites of ants.” The words echoed in his mind like a death knell, reminding him of the terrible mistake he had made. “Caleb was right,” he whispered as he took his final breath. “True beauty comes from within, and wisdom is more precious than gold.” With that, he closed his eyes and slipped away, leaving the memory of his mistake to be a warning to others.
From this story, we learn that appearances can be deceiving. What looks beautiful on the outside may be rotten on the inside. However, when we seek a partner, we should look beyond the physical and focus on character and faith. Proverbs 31:10 (NKJV) states: “Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies.” In this verse, the wise writer encourages men to seek a woman of virtue—a woman who fears the Lord and is trustworthy, loyal, and kind. The moral of this story is clear: Seek a spouse who embodies these virtues, not one who merely appeals to the eye.
A beautiful woman may be desirable, but a wise and godly wife is a priceless treasure. Psalm 127:3 (NKJV) reminds us that “Children are a heritage from the Lord,” a blessing that only the Lord can give. We must remember that when we marry, we are not only marrying a partner, but we are also forming a family. So, we should choose our spouse not only for ourselves but also for the future of our children. Indeed, opening our hearts to God is the key to finding true love. Our lives are but a mist in this world, and without God’s guidance, we are like ships without a compass, sailing blindly into the unknown. The conclusion of our story, then, is this: When seeking a spouse, let God guide you. Trust in His wisdom, seek His counsel, and follow the direction of His Word. And when you find the one whom God has chosen for you, cherish that person and build a life together rooted in faith, love, and obedience. We have seen that beauty is fleeting, but a godly spouse is a priceless treasure.
In our next study, we will explore the practical steps to choosing a partner who reflects God’s design for marriage and family. As we seek to honour God in our relationships, we will learn how to discern God’s will, guard our hearts, and build strong foundations for lasting love.
SEARCH LIGHT: A godly marriage is a partnership in which both spouses submit to God and to each other in humility and love.
PRAYER: Heavenly King, give me the grace to submit to Your will and follow Your guidance in all areas of my life, especially in my relationships. Also, give me the grace to seek a spouse who will help me grow in my faith and love for You.
