TEXT: 1 Corinthians 15:1–58

KEY VERSE: “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.” —1 Corinthians 15:58

1 Corinthians 15 stands as one of the most powerful chapters in the Bible on the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Paul reminds the believers of the gospel he preached to them: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, and that He rose again on the third day. This is not merely a story of inspiration — it is the foundation of our faith. Without the resurrection, our preaching would be empty and our faith futile.

Paul boldly declares that Christ’s resurrection is a historical and spiritual reality, witnessed by many. Because He lives, our hope is secure. The resurrection proves that sin has been conquered, death has been defeated, and eternal life has been secured for those who believe. The grave is not the end for the believer; it is the doorway to glory.

The chapter also addresses doubts about the resurrection of the dead. Paul explains that just as Christ was raised, so shall we be raised. Our earthly bodies, though weak and mortal, will be transformed into glorious, incorruptible bodies. What is sown in weakness will be raised in power. What is perishable will put on the imperishable. This promise assures us that suffering, aging, and death do not have the final word.

At the climax of the chapter, Paul triumphantly declares, “O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?” Through Jesus Christ, victory is ours. Death has lost its sting because Christ has taken it upon Himself. The fear that once held humanity captive has been broken by the power of the risen Savior.

Because of this living hope, Paul calls believers to be steadfast and immovable. The certainty of resurrection should not make us passive; it should make us purposeful. Knowing that our labor in the Lord is not in vain gives meaning to every act of obedience, every sacrifice, and every faithful service. What we do for Christ echoes into eternity.

The resurrection is not just a future promise — it is a present motivation. It strengthens us to endure trials, to remain faithful, and to abound in the work of the Lord. Our hope in Christ transforms how we live today because we are confident of tomorrow.
