THE “BEREAN” SPIRIT (2)
NOVEMBER 19, 2025
TEXT: Acts 17:11
These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. (Acts 17:11)
Yesterday, we examined the life of an interesting set of people called the “Berean” Christians who were noble in mind and action towards the teaching of Apostle Paul. We also discussed certain interesting facts about these believers, and we shall continue on that note today.
MORE INTRIGUING FACTS AND LESSONS FROM THE LIVES OF THE BEREAN CHRISTIANS
- The Berean Christians opened our eyes to many intriguing and crucial kingdom patterns. They made us understand that:
a. The scriptures carry the final and most potent authority on issues of the gospel and the kingdom.
b. Truth is a matter of what is actually true and not what we feel to be true.
c. Culture is not necessarily the truth. They are two different things. That an act has become normative and generally accepted among all does not mean it is the truth. Today, many believers cling religiously to what their denomination, their overseer or their favourite pastors say. No matter how anointed a pastor is, the moment his doctrinal stand is different from the Bible, the Bible should take preeminence. - Because these Bereans were deep in their research, they gained further insights. The Lord tends to show us deep and mysterious revelations the more we draw closer to him. When you are lukewarm spiritually, you will receive lukewarm attention from heaven, and vice versa. Because they searched the scriptures diligently and were very malleable, meaning teachable, their conviction in God became strong and deeply rooted (Acts 17:12). Thus, in essence, the lives of the Berean Christians reflected diligence in studying the scriptures, doctrinal balance, meekness and malleability, wisdom and many other virtues.
SEARCHLIGHT: Receiving the word in the appropriate way and manner determines its fruitfulness in our lives.
PRAYER: O Lord, give me a genuine heart to receive from you, in Jesus mighty name.
