THE FATALITY OF A “LITTLE” COMPROMISE
DECEMBER 3, 2025
TEXT: Judges 16
KEY VERSE: The rulers of the Philistines went to her and said, “See if you can lure him into showing you the secret of his great strength and how we can overpower him so we may tie him up and subdue him. Each one of us will give you eleven hundred shekels of silver.” (V. 5)
To compromise means to deliberately neglect the repercussions of a particular act just in an attempt to satisfy your present needs. When a person compromises, the person is not acting unconsciously. The person is actually conscious of what the action would cause in the long run but still decides to go ahead with it to meet a present desire.
Simply put, it is a small, intentional, and willful concession to sin, knowing fully well that it will not turn out well for you.
Samson’s fall and collapse did not occur suddenly. It began with a series of reckless decisions. Compromise initially looks harmless and manageable until it becomes a gigantic hole that can swallow up or devour the perpetrator. Samson failed to realize this on time until it ruined him ultimately.
FEW COMPROMISES MADE BY SAMSON
- He kept finding himself among the uncircumcised. The moment he started mingling with the Philistines was the beginning of his problem. He treated ungodly relationships and womanizing like a sport meant to entertain himself. (Judges 14, 15, and 16)
- He kept playing around the enemy’s territory. There was a time he found himself in Gaza in the house of a prostitute. He could have been killed right there by the Philistines if not for divine intervention. He was still able to manifest his power and carried the gates of the city on his shoulder to a mountain, thereby facilitating his escape from Gaza. He also entered their camp at Lehi, where he killed one thousand of them with a donkey’s jawbone. (Judges 15, 16)
- He failed to realize the inherent danger in entertaining the senseless questions repeatedly asked by Delilah, his last mistress. He kept answering instead of running for his life. Unfortunately, she prodded him to the point where he foolishly revealed the supernatural secret of his divinely sponsored power. (Judges 16)
SEARCHLIGHT: Be wary! That little compromise that seems like a leisure game or trivial survival strategy is a time bomb waiting to explode if not spiritually detonated.
PRAYER: O LORD, deliver me from making unguarded mistakes out of over-familiarity with You, in Jesus’ mighty name.
