THE FOLLY OF HUMAN INTERVENTION IN DIVINE AGENDA (1)
SEPTEMBER 15, 2025
TEXT: Genesis 30:1-3
KEY VERSE: (Genesis 30:3) And she said, Behold my maid Bilhah, go in unto her; and she shall bear upon my knees, that I may also have children by her.
Today’s discussion is centred on the inherent danger and foolishness that lies in trying to use our human and physical wisdom to handle a situation that requires spiritual wisdom. In those days and even till now, barrenness was/is considered a terrible thing indeed. There are so many prestigious positions that barrenness robs a woman of in society. Rachel was unfortunate to find herself in this category in the early years of her marriage to Jacob. God deliberately sealed up her womb but permitted her sister, Leah, to be fruitful. God did this in order to check the favouritism and inequality that bedevilled the family. Jacob loved Rachel but had little or no interest in Leah. Leah was only able to secure the attention of Jacob by giving birth to as many as seven children (Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, and Dinah). Rachel, on the other hand, wallowed continually in the pool of barrenness. Eleven children were given birth to in her presence with none of them hers. It got to a point when she got completely fed up and had to resort to “helping God”. She presented her beautiful house maid, Bilhah, to Jacob, hoping that she would sleep with him and become pregnant via Jacob and achieve for her mistress what she had been unable to achieve for herself in marriage. Surprisingly, Jacob had no hesitation. He slept with the woman and got two sons through her. This act of Rachel must have really angered God, even though it wasn’t directly recorded that God reacted in any way. God has special plans and purposes for our lives. The timing is what actually differs at times.
Sometimes, we don’t know the time and season of certain manifestations as the Father has already put them under His own authority. Sometimes, we feel that what we are passing through is unfair. We feel harshly treated or abandoned by God.
However, it is essential to state that God has not forgotten anyone. God has everyone in mind. We should not go out of our way to assist God or try to carnally speed up the process. If God is not ready, then He is not ready, and there’s nothing we can do to change that. Our tears, melancholy, and sorrow may not necessarily force God to give you a breakthrough outside His own timing and purpose. At worst, He will let you have your way, and if care is not taken, one may miss out on the larger picture that involves God.
SEARCHLIGHT:
God does not need our help. Any help we think we are offering to God may later impede our own breakthrough.
PRAYER:
O Lord, help me to wait for your timing and directions for my life, in the name of Jesus.
