THE GOSPEL FOR ALL

THE GOSPEL FOR ALL

NOVEMBER 15, 2024

TEXT: And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, “See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?” (Acts 8:36)

Today, we shall be discussing the inclusive nature of the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Our central focus shall be on the Ethiopian eunuch who was converted by Philip, one of the seven deacons appointed to serve tables in the early church.

The story of the Ethiopian eunuch teaches us many significant lessons about the gospel, including:

✅ The gospel of Christ has no cultural or racial boundaries. Christ has come to redeem all who find themselves lost or astray (emphasis on the word “all”). The gospel transcends ethnic limitations. It is not Christ’s desire that anyone should perish, but for everyone to come into His marvelous light, whether Jew, Gentile, Ethiopian, Greek, etc.

Another fact that corroborates this is Jesus’ command to us after His resurrection: “Go and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19).

✅ The gospel is no respecter of status. In our text, the Ethiopian eunuch was described as a top-ranking official in his country, but that became insignificant when he encountered Deacon Philip. This shows that in Christ, there is no distinction between slave or freeborn, rich or poor, male or female. Everyone is equal and receives equal attention regarding salvation.

We live in a world with huge distinctions about who should benefit from God’s mercies. Many unconsciously hold the view that the gospel and Christ’s death are only for a select few. This discussion aims to dispel and nullify such parochial opinions.

KEY STEPS

✅ Channel your outreaches to reach people from diverse backgrounds and races.

✅ When preaching the gospel, ensure everyone is carried along. Consider your environment and ensure your message meets the gospel needs of everyone locally, even if you need skilled interpreters.

✅ Recognize cultural differences and emphasize unity in Christ Jesus.

SEARCHLIGHT: Reflect on how you would have perished without finding the light. Now, having found it, extend it to others and bring them out of darkness. Everyone needs to hear the gospel, regardless of race or culture. By creating an all-inclusive community, you will do the kingdom a great service.

PRAYER: O Lord, help me not to be parochial in preaching Your word, in Jesus’ name.
