THE HOLY SPIRIT’S ROLE IN OUR PURSUIT OF HOLINESS
NOVEMBER 30, 2024
TEXT: “And when He comes, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment.” (John 16:8)
The Holy Spirit has been assigned by God to serve as a check on our lives. The Holy Spirit is our silent rebuker and constructive critic, convicting us whenever we sin or act improperly. The conviction of the Holy Spirit is not just to make us feel momentarily guilty; rather, it is meant to help us identify the depth of our sin and our need for God’s forgiveness.
The Holy Spirit empowers us to obey God’s instructions and pursue holy living. (Philippians 2:13) He helps us reach a stage where we have a maximum desire to always please God in all our actions. The Holy Spirit transforms us, enabling us to put off the old self and put on the new self. (2 Corinthians 3:18) This transformation is a lifelong process, as the Holy Spirit’s work in our lives is ongoing.
HOW TO COOPERATE WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT FOR SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT
- Ensure that you yield to the Holy Spirit’s guidance and leading. Allow Him to control and empower you. Surrender your will and desires to God’s will. (Galatians 5:16-17)
- Spend time in prayer and Bible study. This helps you stay connected with the Holy Spirit, receiving guidance and empowerment. (Luke 11:13, 2 Timothy 3:16-17)
- Obey the promptings of the Holy Spirit. When you are prompted to make a decision or take a step, obey and trust in His leading. (Isaiah 30:21)
