THE IMPORTANCE OF GOD’S PRESENCE II
March 13, 2025
TEXT: “And when the people came into the camp, the elders of Israel said, ‘Why has the LORD smitten us today before the Philistines? Let us fetch the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of Shiloh unto us, that, when it comes among us, it may save us out of the hand of our enemies.'” (1 Samuel 4:3)
Today, we shall continue our discussion by examining some biblical characters who made the presence of God sacrosanct to them before taking any step.
BIBLICAL CHARACTERS WHO SOUGHT GOD’S PRESENCE
- David: David hardly made any major decision in the Bible without involving God. He was always communicating with God to ensure that his actions were never devoid of God’s involvement. When he wanted to pursue the Amalekites who had invaded Ziklag, he asked a profound question of God. “Shall I pursue these troops? Shall I overtake them?” (1 Samuel 30:8). He also affirmed this in his book of Psalms, where he expressed his earnest wish for the presence of God. (Psalm 27:4)
- Nehemiah: Nehemiah took it upon himself to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem after receiving a negative report from Hanani, his brother from home. However, he knew the importance of God’s presence and earnestly asked for it before embarking on the assignment. (Nehemiah 1:4-11)
- Daniel: Daniel was a man who thrived with the presence of God. He never took major steps without involving God. He invited God’s presence to help him interpret the King’s dream. (Daniel 2)
- Joshua: Joshua was saddled with the responsibility of leading the Israelites to the Promised Land upon the demise of Moses. He sought God’s presence concerning the lands to be conquered and possessed, especially in the cases of Jericho and Ai.
