THE INCOMPATIBILITY OF SIN WITH GOD’S CHILDREN
NOVEMBER 22, 2024
TEXT: “Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.” (1 John 3:9)
The Apostle Paul attempted to enlighten us on the status and meaning of rebirth in one of his epistles to the Corinthians. He stated that anyone who switches to Christ’s side automatically becomes a new creature, and old things will surely pass away. Being born of God refers to a spiritual rebirth through faith in Jesus Christ.
In biology, it is taught that a child inherits genes from their parents, making it highly probable that they will inherit certain behavioral traits and act like their parents in some instances. Similarly, as children of God, we are expected to behave like Him. It is unheard of for us to claim to be born of God while allowing the seed of sin to remain in our lives.
The moment we turn to Christ, our identity automatically changes. We now have a new identity in Christ Jesus and are no longer slaves to sin. Being born of God implies spiritual transformation, characterized by righteousness and holiness. It would be disastrous if we claimed to be sons of God without demonstrating any evidence of our sonship status.
Quick Take-home Points

- Seek forgiveness in all areas and repent of every known and unknown sin.
