THE NEED FOR POWER IN A DANGEROUS WORLD

THE NEED FOR POWER IN A DANGEROUS WORLD

TEXT: LUKE 10:19

_Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you._

Power can be looked at from different perspectives, angles, and standpoints, depending on the intention of the speaker or writer. In governance and politics, power is the ability to compel or enforce obedience or to compel a person to do what they ordinarily wouldn’t want to do. In physics, power is discussed in terms of electricity, energy, and other allied concepts. However, the power that is being referred to here is the one which every believer is expected to possess.

As believers, our lives do not just stop at going to church on Sundays, attending mid-week services, paying tithes and offerings, joining units in church, dressing in a holy manner, being close to men of God, and so many other acts that most Christians unconsciously term as Christianity. It is not bad to possess all the above traits. As a matter of fact, they are part and parcel of our normal lifestyles as believers. However, it becomes challenging when we, as Christians, demonstrate all the above traits but lack the requisite power to successfully navigate the “murky waters” of life.

It is no gainsaying the fact that we are in a tempestuous world. The world is not smiling with us, especially as believers that we are. We are the ones smiling with the world. The world is ready to deal ruthlessly with anyone who stays slack in the battlefield of life. Power is the major fuel by which we can conquer the world. Why do you think we have so many holy and righteous Christians who are still under the yoke of the devil in their marriage, career, academics, business, and ministry? It is because of one thing: _“Lack/Absence of power”_. Without power, it is very difficult to confront the agents of darkness who are described in the scriptures as being _“wiser than the children of light”_ (Luke 16:8).

*The Importance Of Divine Power in Evangelism*
Furthermore, as believers, we are not only called to live victoriously but also to spread the gospel with divine power and authority. Evangelism without power is like a message without impact. We need the power of the Holy Spirit to demonstrate the love of Christ, to heal the brokenhearted, and to bring souls into the kingdom of God. With divine power, our words become more than just words; they become instruments of life, hope, and transformation. It is this power that will enable us to fulfill the Great Commission, making disciples of all nations and bringing glory to God.
