THE NEED FOR POWER IN A DANGEROUS WORLD (4)
AUGUST 5, 2025
TEXT: Luke 10:19
“Behold, I give unto you power to tread over serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”
For three consecutive days, we have examined the importance of spiritual power in the life of a believer, especially in a hostile world like ours. Though this topic is vast and unending, we’ve focused on key foundational truths that highlight the necessity of power.
What Happens When a Believer Is Powerless?
- Vulnerability to spiritual attacks
A powerless believer becomes prone to spiritual attacks. Take note that even a holy and just life does not exempt one from satanic aggression. To overcome consistently, one must go beyond righteousness and step into power. - Weak prayer life
The first sign of spiritual powerlessness is a weak or dying prayer altar. When the enemy plans to bring a believer down, he first attacks their prayer life. Once prayer weakens, spiritual power drains, and the believer becomes easy prey. - Susceptibility to sin
Overcoming sin cannot be done by human effort alone. It takes the power of God to subdue and dethrone sin in one’s life. - Compromise of faith
Lack of power may lead a believer to compromise in the face of pressure. Though Luke 10:19 assures us of power over the enemy, failing to lay hold of it can make one seek ungodly shortcuts in times of trouble.
Key Facts About Power
- Power is for all believers
It is not reserved for pastors, prophets, apostles, or prayer warriors alone. Every believer has access to divine power. (Mark 16:17–18) - Power confounds the devil and his agents
Without power, a believer becomes an object of mockery in the hands of the enemy. (Luke 10:19) - Power is essential, not optional
It is not a luxury—it is a spiritual necessity. You cannot survive, let alone thrive, in this mysterious and hostile world through carnal strength. (Ephesians 6:10) - Power prevents premature destruction
In a world full of wickedness, the enemy is constantly looking for whom to destroy. A powerless believer becomes an easy target. Don’t allow yourself to become a prey in the net of the wicked.
SEARCH LIGHT: Strive to attain power. You cannot survive the rigors of life by remaining simple, carnal, or ordinary.
PRAYER: O Lord, equip me with power to cope with the storms of this world.
