THE “PILLAR AND CATERPILLAR” LIFE IN THE HOUSE OF GOD 2

TEXT: Revelation 3:12

“Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.”

This is a continuation of yesterday’s topic. Today, we shall delve into the second aspect, focusing on Caterpillars in the House of God. As we explore this topic, let us reflect on our own roles within the church.Generally, a caterpillar is known for destroying or pulling down objects. The key phrase here is “pull down.” Anyone exhibiting traits that undermine the church’s foundation is a prime example of a caterpillar. Caterpillars are destructive and devouring (Isaiah 56:10-12_*l). They often operate under the guise of friendship or fellowship, making their harmful actions even more detrimental.

Characteristics of Caterpillars

1. Gossip and Slander: Caterpillars engage in reckless gossip and slander, harming fellow church members and eroding trust.

2. Destructive Criticism: They focus on criticism rather than constructive feedback, never acknowledging positive efforts or progress.

3. Selfishness: Caterpillars prioritize personal interests, expecting the church to revolve around them and their needs.

4. Compromising God’s Standards: They selectively obey God’s instructions, avoiding sacrificial obedience and spiritual growth.

5. Hindering Church Growth: By spreading discouraging news, caterpillars dampen enthusiasm for spiritual tasks and hinder evangelism.

6. Disrespecting Authority: They undermine and disrespect church leaders, especially when familiarity breeds contempt and a sense of entitlement.

SEARCHLIGHT:Every church has both pillars and caterpillars. Strive to be a pillar, upholding the church’s spiritual structure and promoting positive growth. Recognize the harmful effects of caterpillar behavior and actively work to counteract it.

PRAYER: My Father and my God, may I not be a devourer of good things in your house, in Jesus’ name.
