THE POWER OF GRATITUDE
OCTOBER 17, 2024
TEXT: “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:18)
Gratitude is the heartfelt expression of appreciation to someone who has done a good deed for us. As Christians, gratitude plays a vital role in our lives. Similarly, in Yoruba culture, it is believed that showing appreciation for past kindness opens doors for future blessings.Gratitude to God acknowledges His sovereignty and provision in our lives (Psalms 100:4-5). However, we often get caught up in life’s challenges and forget to appreciate God’s blessings. We focus on what God has yet to do, neglecting what He has already done. The power of gratitude cannot be overstated. It paves the way for even more remarkable testimonies from God. Regardless of your circumstances, gratitude is essential. It demonstrates humility and recognizes our dependence on God.
KEY FACTS ABOUT GRATITUDE
1. Gratitude attracts more blessings. Just as a parent is more likely to help a grateful child, God rewards a grateful heart. (Luke 6:38)
2. Lack of gratitude is a sign of “pride”. You are indirectly telling God that “Baba God, I didn’t ask you to do anything for me”. That is the message you are indirectly passing across. (Romans 1:21)
3. Gratitude strengthens faith and trust in God (Psalms 28:7). When we thank God, we acknowledge His power and provision.
4. Gratitude shifts focus from problems to solutions, fostering a positive outlook. Philippians 4:8 encourages us to focus on the positive.
5. Practicing gratitude daily enhances mental and emotional well-being. “A merry heart doth good like a medicine” (Proverbs 17:22).
6. Expressing gratitude inspires others to do good, creating a ripple effect of kindness. “Let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works” (Hebrews 10:24).
7. Gratitude helps to reframe challenging situations, revealing hidden opportunities. “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God” (Romans 8:28).
SEARCHLIGHT: Complaining does not change our circumstances. Instead, expressing gratitude to God opens doors to greater blessings.
PRAYERS: Lord, I thank you for all you’ve done for me. Help me to always be grateful, in Jesus’ mighty name.
