THE POWER OF PERSISTENT AND CONSISTENT PRAYERS II

TEXT: Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: (Matthew 7:7)

In the first part of this topic, we discussed the meaning, nature, and scope of persistent prayers, in line with the principles laid down by Christ in our given text. Today, we shall proceed to discuss various obstacles that can inhibit our prayers.

PRAYER-INHIBITING FACTORS

Lack of faith: Praying without faith is simply a waste of time. When we pray, we must believe that it has been done, even when there is no clear evidence. Apostle James compared a person who prays without faith to a wave of the sea being tossed about by the wind (James 1:6-8).

Giving up easily: Some people pray and expect instant miracles. When the miracle doesn’t come instantly, many tend to give up instantly. However, it is essential to note that God is not a magician. God chooses to delay answers to our prayers occasionally due to different factors. Sometimes, it may be because such answers may put our lives in jeopardy or turn us away from the presence of God at that particular moment (Luke 18).

Sin and disobedience: Sin can hinder us from receiving answers to our prayers. Prayer offered in sin is an abomination to God and may prevent answers to our prayers (Isaiah 59:1-2, Psalm 66:18).
